Loudness.

Posted on October 11, 2008 @ 04:38AM

Ugh, I had major problems getting to sleep last night. I got home, from school and had dinner, and read for a while, and went to bed at the respectable time at 10pm. From then on, I could hear people moving about in the hall, nothing major, but loud enough to stop me from falling asleep. By two hours later the noise was getting louder, and I was hearing what sounded like a party in the apartment across from mine. I tried to roll over and just ignore it, but then I heard what sounded like percussion, and other instruments. Not actual music, just some random beats and strings of notes. At 1pm they started playing full on music. I left my room and banged loudly on the door. Surely no one would be so rude to have a party this late at night, with no prior warning whatsoever.

No one answered the door, and they continued to play just awful music. I banged louder but nothing. I went back into the flat to see if the Twins were disturbed, but they were nowhere to be found. It occurred to me that they were probably at the party themselves. I called campus noise control, and about half an hour or so later the noise finally went down. Then it started up again. I couldn’t believe no one else in the building was doing anything about it. I was amazed a group of people could be so inconsiderate as to do something like this without any thought of other people. I put on some clothing, went out of the dorm, and checked their apartment number. 906. My study of the buildings at Tosadae was about to become very useful.

All of the buildings were set up so a control box managed each room individually. Electricity, Telecommunications, the Vybernet, even air conditioning. All you had to was remove the fuse card for that room, and it would shut down completely. Not many people knew about this, and the control boxes were masked to look like the rest of the exterior of the building. As I had been looking at blueprints and maps to see how the buildings had been adapted for modern use, I knew where these were. I found the box and removed card 906. The green light marking the slot went out. They were without power. I tossed the card into a garden and headed back to my bedroom. I saw a whole lot of people leaving on the way out.

Not wanting to get caught, I asked some of the people leaving, “Which way to the party?”
“The party’s over,” said some ordinary looking blonde girl. “The power’s out.”
“Oh no way!” I said trying to hide my sarcasm. I got back to the room and crawled into bed. I slept until morning.
